If your dog experiences some of the following symptoms, you may need to re-evaluate their diet.

itchy skin, shedding fur or smelly dog

smelly, sloppy, dry, hard, or irregular movements

depressed temperament or hyperactivity

excessive treatments for fleas or worms

frequent trips to the vet and/or groomer

overweight or stiff movements, pants easily

The following foods are three of my all time best performing foods that I trust with my dogs health and wellness. Home made diets and raw are another great healthy choice for most dogs. Pre packaged brands vary in quality like everything else. Visit your local pet specialty store instead of the grocery store for nutrient rich foods instead of highly processed, mass produced brand name foods.

Eagle pack - Duck meal and Oatmeal
This food is my personal favourite. Every one of my dogs, and nearly every one I convert to does amazingly well. My favourite thing about this food is, if you read the AAFCO fine print you will see that this food is for adult dogs only, and not an all life stage. Never feed this adult food to a puppy, but this means no excess calcium/phosphorus for adults and the fats and protein levels are just right for an adult. The Salmon, Anchovy and Sardine variety is the other variety I use, and they love the taste. Both varieties may be good for some dogs with certain food sensitivities and it has great digestive enzymes in it. Dogs that digest foods well, feel good on the inside, look good on the outside, are less likely to attract fleas.

GO! Natural Salmon & Oatmeal
A simple allergy formula is key when dealing with an allergy, this food has one protein, one carb, one oil, this means less chance for an allergy. Omega oils are perfect for nourishing a dry, itchy skin and coat. I have seen this food make a big difference for a lot of dogs.

Innova Adult Formula
This food has a good variety of ingredients, and its such a nutrient dense food that you don't need to feed your 80 lb dog much more than two cups, and that's with at least one hour of exercise daily. This food has proven to me to have the least number of pets turn their nose up to the flavour, and they perform well on it.

Orijen
This food has improved so many dogs quality of life. Grain free, Canadian made, and all Canadian ingredients (last time I checked). This food is very rich, and like with any change in diet, must be done slowly to avoid hershey squirts.

A hungry dog is a healthy dog

• Feed your adult dog two meals a day - if they don't eat it within 20 minutes, remove it until the next meal time
• Once you get your dog in the routine of eating like a healthy dog, you will see many benefits
• If you know their eating habits, it's easier to tell if they start to feel ill sooner
• You will be able to add a second dog in the future with no problem and no food aggression because you are the pack leader and in control of the food. In a dogs mind, food and possessions are the most valuable asset in life

If your dog has issues eating, consult your veterinarian as they may by very ill.
If they are healthy then you have a behaviour problem.
